Deep Shift Guides
Deep Shift was created to provide guidance for organizations. We work with leaders, inviting them to discover where the gifts of their people and their purpose in the world meet. Deep Shift provides support as leaders make their own personal transitions and guide their organizations through the change and transformation necessary to empower their people to work for the good of the world. As guides, we provide coaching, consulting and resources for leaders of deep shifts — nonprofit leaders, faith community leaders, ethical business leaders and others. Linnea Nilsen Capshaw
For the past decade, Linnea Nilsen Capshaw has served as coach, facilitator, consultant and trainer, assisting faith communities, health care institutions, and non-profit organizations to discern and live out their missions. She accomplishes her goals through a process of assessment, visioning, planning, training, and implementation of leadership and organizational strategies.
Linnea’s initial training and experience was as a health care administrator, where she served two hospitals for a total of seven years. She focused much of her time on developing physician outpatient practices and facilitating transitions in the leadership methods and organizational systems of practices. Then she was called to use her gifts to help build a better world through other organizations. As a result, Linnea started her own consulting firm in 1995.
In addition to her Master’s in Hospital and Health Administration, Linnea was trained by and has been affiliated with a number of consulting organizations to expand her skills. She works with organizations in urban and suburban environments, and has a vision for the role they can play in transforming society by doing their part to bring justice, mercy, and opportunity to all people.
Coaching individuals and organizations as they claim and begin living out their unique purpose is Linnea’s life’s work. She has training and experience in the following key requirements for creating and developing organizations to make a difference in this world: mission/vision/strategy development, leadership development, organizational design, staff and servant empowerment, spiritual development, system and process development, and relational community development.
Over the years, Linnea has continued to retool and refine her coaching methods as she works with leaders in a changing world. She has seen how many organizations have been able to:
• Discover their authentic, ever-evolving purpose in the world and create their organization to align with their purpose.
• Empower people to live out their gifts and call for the good of the world.
Linnea is excited about guiding leaders and organizations in the ways of Deep Shift, as they struggle through the turbulent waters of major transition. She looks forward to helping organizations become ever more relevant, focused on sustainable, ethical transformation in the world, while they discover new ways of living their story for the good of the world. Linnea lives in Washington DC with her awesome husband Daniel Capshaw! Contact Linnea at LinneaNC@gmail.com.
Other Guides
Linnea has networked with many other coaches and consultants over the years and has learned to bring in to the process the right people based on the needs of each coaching relationship. She looks forward to learning more about your particular situation and bringing the appropriate resources to bear for your needs.
Linnea started the process that has led to Deep Shift with a fellow coach, Denise VanEck, a partner and guide with Deep Shift.
Denise Van Eck
Denise VanEck began her ministry journey in the early 1990’s. The journey has taken her from youth ministry to church consulting. In whatever role she is in, Denise finds herself drawn to the development of healthy leadership structures and team dynamics. During her eleven years of youth ministry, Denise developed a leadership training program for students that trained an average of 75 students each year. The curriculum developed for that program has since been published by Youth Specialties as Leadership 101.
After transitioning from youth ministry to holistic church leadership development, Denise began to interact with churches around the US, and her company, Endurance Leadership, was formed. Through her years of consulting and coaching work with churches of all sizes and denominations, Denise began to notice that something was missing. Tried and true methodologies and philosophies just didn’t seem to be cutting it anymore.
Many people were asking questions for which their old systems were giving unsatisfactory answers. Good-hearted, well-intentioned, highly-skilled people seemed to be struggling in their ministry roles and responsibilities. In Denise’s heart grew a passion to help people navigate through organizational whitewater and the turbulence of changing times. She is eager, with God’s help, to help leaders experience emotional maturity and spiritual wholeness – because to survive in times of external change, leaders themselves must experience internal transformation.
That passion is evident in Denise’s work with Deep Shift and was also put into practice over the last 2.5 years in her role as Community Life Pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, MI. The fast-paced, ever-changing environment at Mars Hill was the perfect “liminal space” for keeping Denise on the learning edge of ministry. Transition, exploration and change have been the norm for her personally as well, as she has four kids (one of whom is still a teenager) and has begun transitioning into the role of a grandparent.
